SAN JOSE, CR / ACCESS Newswire / August 21, 2026 / Americas CardroomPro Alex Foxen has taken the No. 1 position in the 2026 Global Poker Index Player of the Year standings while moving within 18 points of the Card Player Player of the Year lead.
Foxen has 4,480.04 GPI points. Tony "Ren" Lin ranks second with 4,321.52, leaving Foxen with a 158.52-point advantage. The GPI calculation uses a player's top 13 qualifying results in open events during the calendar year, allowing stronger new results to replace lower-scoring finishes.
The Card Player race has an even narrower margin. Brandon Wilson leads with 7,127 points, while Foxen is second with 7,109 points. Jesse Lonis is third with 6,481 points.
Foxen's five qualifying victories span five tournament stops. He opened the year by winning PGT Last Chance Event #6 for $232,400, followed that with a $165,235 victory in MSPT Poker Bowl X, and earned $1.26 million in the $75,000 Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Max event at Triton Jeju. He later won U.S. Poker Open Event #7 for $210,000.
His fifth title came at the World Series of Poker on June 15. Foxen topped 466 entries in the $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty event for $594,246 and the fourth bracelet of his career. He ended the 2026 WSOP with 14 cashes and $2,067,005 in listed payouts.
Foxen joined the Americas Cardroom Pro roster with Chance Kornuth and Chris Hunichen on May 28. He had already secured four titles before joining, then added the WSOP bracelet during his first summer representing the brand.
A GPI victory would give Foxen his third Player of the Year title after consecutive wins in 2018 and 2019. A Card Player victory would be his first after five earlier top-four finishes.
